Frameworks beat motivation. Here is the one I hand to every veteran who asks where to start. RECON stands for Recon, Establish, Certify, Operate, Network. Run it in order.
Step 1. Recon the terrain
Before you buy a course, take inventory. List the systems you already ran in uniform, the software you touched, and the processes you fixed. A signal soldier, a supply clerk, and a medic all handled data, checklists, and systems. That is transferable.

Step 2. Establish a beachhead
Choose one lane and one tool. Do not spread across five platforms in week one. That is how people quit.
For most veterans the fastest beachhead is a low code automation tool, because you get results before you ever write real code. Microsoft Power Automate and UiPath are two of the most in demand. Pick one.
Step 3. Certify and construct
Now you build proof, not just knowledge. Two credential paths are worth your time, and both let you study for free.

It is open to veterans who served at least 36 months on active duty and are under age 62, and it is capped at 4,000 paid seats per fiscal year, so treat the opening date as a real deadline.
